Srinagar Too Capsized : Flood situation worsens


7/09/2014 : The Jammu & Kashmir who is battling against worst flood has lost tens of dozens of lives. Government has itself declared helplessness. However N.D.R.F. has brought boats and other necessary supplies from Chennai. The state Government has felt deficiency of flood fighting equipments.
News From Capital Srinagar :
The jehlum river has exceeded its height of flowing. The "Sangham" where small tributaries combine to form jehlum is rushing towards the civil lines area of srinagar and old city of Srinagar. Towns those are lying near to jehlum river like Pandrethan, Awantipora, Athwajan, Lasjan, Raj Bagh, Sonwar, Jawahir Nagar, Bemina and some town of old city like safa kadal  are completely floating. Dalgate is on verge to capsize. Many boats in Dal Lake have capsized already. Moulana Azad Road is filled with water, which is making movement of transport very difficult. Bridges have broken in parts. The dal lock gate cannot be seen as water rushes over it. The office of Dal Lock Lock Gate is under running and rushing water. From chasms water is entering the boulevard also. The small tributaries of Dal are also bringing flood to the town where water was filled illegally. Towns of Taqidar Mohalla, and some parts of Nowpora also came under water.
The centers of Doordarshan and All India Radio who lie on the sides of Jehlum are also flooded. Water inundated the studio complex of Doordarshan yesterday and disturbed the telecast of news that plays a wide role of communication in worst situation of flood in valley.
Pandreathan, Athwajan, Indranagar, Sonwar, Rajbagh, Ikhraj Pora, Jawahir Nagar, Mehjoor Nagar, Bemina are the major town spreaded on a wide area who have came under the heavy flood. The water has even reached to the second and third floors at these places.
Government is giving first preference to save the lives. Many governmental and non governmental organizations have launched rescue operations extensively. The Chief Minister of State Shri Omar Abdullah is himself volunteering actively to savethe lives of people.


We are not able to report to you the number of lives who have succumbed the flood, as  verifying the number of lives lost or number of houses collapsed is not possible.
