Avoid Double Standards

We Too Deserve The Same Treatment But Alas ...!

Humans anywhere are equal. They share the same aspirations and hope for their betterment, for which they cast their valuable votes. Their well being, security and safety as well as their better sustenance, all becomes the responsibility of the serving government. Government, which plays an indispensible role in a democratic and secular setup, needs to show concern about the interests of its people and by its heartiest efforts try to win their hearts. By standing at the expectations of the people and giving them more than what they desire for, holds the key to run a successful government and proceed towards the path of peace, prosperity and success. On the contrary, if people complaint of being robbed off the promises that were made to them making them highly discomforted and dissatisfied, it becomes difficult for the govt to be successful and achieve their satisfaction. That supposedly is not a good indication for the serving government and could create problems in its functionality. The roots of discontentment if allowed to stretch deep inside, would definitely lead to recklessness and a more violent, vicious and sadistic outcome. Whatsoever may be the reason, the first step towards meeting the expectations and wishes of the people, is to care for their safety and security, unless all other things would be vain. Human life is worthless and nothing on earth can replace it. So, what matters is the sense of concern that is shown while dealing with them.
The government should be justified in its approach and must treat all as one. But some incidences make people to question as to whether this principle is applied with heart and soul or not. A month ago, while going for a picnic, our vehicle suddenly jolted, as the driver didn’t notice the speed breaker. Although, it was a minor incident, but who knows, had the vehicle we were travelling in, could have met a disaster not because of our driver’s fault only, but also the authorities who are responsible for constructing such motion breakers without showing the intimating sign for the same. After some days I was pleased to see the same speed breaker being coloured. I recalled the same incident and thanked God that sooner or later the authorities have woke up from the slumber and have finally done the much needed change. In my exhilaration, I told the same to my friends, who laughed at me and told that whatever is being done, is entirely for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra purpose and nothing else. The govt. doesn’t care for us, but, is concerned about the well being of Yatris. That took me by surprise and I felt stunned. It is not the only instance, but looking around the roads, which used to be in dilapidated state, turn to be fine during these three months and later on no one bothers to inspect their condition. Acting as a blessing in disguise, Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra brings about a wave of improvement in the overall infrastructure and turns to be a source of revenue for many households. But what is serious, is the callous and insensitive attitude of the government towards its own people. If for some obstacles or circumstances, there is any change in Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, does mean that we would no longer be getting better roads and amenities which as per local population is a blessing of this holy pilgrimage to us. Such viewpoint of people not only erodes their faith in the government but also serves as a basis of rebellion against it. With great respect and humility towards Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, one question that needs to be answered by the administration is that why during these three months only, we get to see better and proper management by the government, which turns out to be a fairy tale for the rest of other months.
Kashmiris have been always known for their hospitality. But how come they would be able to serve better when their own needs need others to get fulfilled. Why hasn’t the government been able to do justice with their aspirations? As the elections are coming closer day by day, the political parties are intensifying their efforts to win more and more votes, but when it comes to deliver their promises, there seems no one who is available or can be approached. Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is going to commence soon and will take a course of about two months, but what remains a point to ponder on will be the attitude of government towards its own people, once this holy pilgrimage gets over. Would the government be the same as it was or shall there be any change in its approach which would make people contented by its efforts and be the reason for its success? With the threats in place against Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, the govt needs to be more careful and show its sincerity towards serving the Yatris, which as of now should be its prime focus. After all they too share the same aspirations regarding their security which need to be honoured. For this purpose locals too can be helpful by making them aware and imparting the necessary expertise in them to deal with any untoward incident, which they would welcome always.
